2018 YELP CHALLENGE: 8/10
Come for the AFFORDABLE Udon!!!! Minfune is a vendor in the Mitsuwa Marketplace food court that sells soba, donburi, udon, tempura and kaarage. They don't specialize in anything in particular (like the adjacent Hannosuke (tempura) or Santouka (really good ramen) within the food court), but it's Obaachan (Japanese Grandma) approved! Besides the Zaru Soba and Udon, I can't vouch for the rest of the menu, but my family and I have been eating the udon here for years.
For around $7-10 you can get a delicious bowl of udon without a huge wait time.
Quick tips:
-Winter is Sukiyaki time! (hot pot with thinly sliced beef and veggies)
-cheap combos!
-Zaru soba is very delicious as well. Huge portions.
-great service. The lady is adorable. -

Service: Staff is really friendly but it took me 10-15 minutes of waiting considering that it's not that busy that time
Food: I got Beef Onion and surprisingly it was really good. My only concern is the amount of beef you get. I already asked for half rice but still the amount of beef given wasn't enough. Miso was a little cold and doesn't taste rice.
I'll still give it a go whenever I'm not rushing and probably will skip the miso next time -

2019 Yelp 100 Challenge (61/100)
I was meeting my cousin & his g/f for dinner, & everyone wanted something different, which is one of the best things about the Mitsuwa food court... the variety. I went to my favorite ramen shop, HRS, across the way, & my husband got the SALMON BENTO BOX (salmon, rice, veggies & shrimp tempura, house salad) at Mifune.
It was quite busy in the food court on a Saturday evening so the order took awhile. Once we got it, it did not look appealing. The salmon was dark, flat, & skimpy of flesh, barely palatable. =( It left him wishing that he had gone over to the plaza next door for our fav & affordable bento takeout, JKE. The salmon was fishy & didn't particularly taste fresh. I offered to take it back & ask for a replacement, but he declined & wasn't in the mood for another long wait for possibly another bad fish. In my rush to get the kids settled, I didn't get a shot of the grayish fish. The saving grace was the rice was fresh, & the tempura was tasty & crisp. Whew! The house salad was a simple salad of iceberg lettuce & tomatoes with watery dressing (because the lettuce wasn't properly dried).
Service was ok, the cashier took your order, gave you a ticket, then called your number when it's ready -- no more, no less. Free water is available on the pick-up side. Mifune used to be one of the cheaper spots in the food court, but no more, & I can't say it's worth it for the lack of quality & consistency in their food. And I forgot about their Yelp check-in 10% discount because I couldn't get service. =( It would have ease some of our dinner pangs of an enjoyable meal. Future return visits are questionable so I'm not sure my check-in offer will be redeemed.

I got the spam musubi and chicken katsu donburi, totaling about $11. The spam musubi has a very nice presentation but it is legit double the rice as a normal musubi. It comes with a layer of rice, fried egg, spam, fried egg, and more rice wrapped in a layer of seaweed. When I took a bite out of it, rice came pouring out and on the second bite, the seaweed wouldn't break and everything fell apart.
I had better luck with the chicken katsu donburi. It came with a good amount of food but wasn't really cooked with the sweet sauce that I'm used to. There was some sauce so it was a little sweet, but some bites were a little bland. I did get some of their katsu sauce on the side but it legit tasted like A1 steak sauce! Def not katsu sauce.
Overall, I don't think I'll be ordering from here again unless I'm insanely craving donburi. -

Got the Nabeyaki Udon and although the udon noodles were not bad, the broth was wayyyy too salty. I like that it comes in a metal pot so that the soup keeps its warmth though.
Tip: if you're getting the nabeyaki or any of the other soups they have with a tempura shrimp, ask for the shrimp on the side so that it won't get soggy.
They have complimentary self-serve iced tea which is tasty.
